How to Use RSS FEEDS to show dynamic data on your web site!

An RSS FEED is an XML file on a web site that has dynamic data from the site that shows the latest web pages added in a format that can be read by an RSS FEED Reader or other software and scripts that translate the data into a form that can be shown on a web page.

Most blogs have an RSS feed for not only the main page, but also indivual feeds for category pages (such as in Wordpress blogs that have categories defined). This is a great tool that web site owners can use to show very targeted content on their web sites. Simply find a blog that has good content, such as our Article Marketing News Blog and then find a suitable category, grab the RSS FEED URL and show the content on your web site! You'll have great words added to your web page which will give you more opportunities to get free search engine traffic! Also, search engines love web pages that have content that changes! Putting data from RSS feeds can help give your page the freshness it needs to be visited more often by spiders!

So how do you show RSS on your site???

PHP Include to show RSS from our feeds

The EASY way to show RSS data on your web page is by using our PHP code - simply copy this code onto your web page (must be php enabled) and it will show the data we have prepared for you! It could not be easier!

If your page ends in .php and your hosting allows PHP code to be executed - your page will show the data in the spot you designate. (it might work with .html if you have the proper info in your .htaccess file - that's a little more advanced and we cover this in the private Article Underground members forum)

The PHP INCLUDES are below - copy one on your page - upload it and test your page - you should see the data - here is a sample page showing what it looks like on one of our web pages with formatting.

Software To Show RSS

The other way to show data which is harder but gives you MORE CONTROL is to use RSS FEED SOFTWARE to help you parse the data and display it on your page. There are lots of programs and we can't cover them all, but we'll show you one of them.

RSS2HTML is a good free script that willget the job done. Download it here.

It's a little more complicated but if you follow the directions you should get it to work.

I've modified the RSS2HTML sample template so you can use the RSS as an include instead of showing a FULL PAGE

Here are some samples of the RSS feeds from our blog - feel free to use them on your pages.

Instructions: All you do is put the rss2html folder on your domain and upload the files - also upload the 2 modified templates from my zip and put in the same folder as rss2html (my folder is named rss2html) - then simply change the URL so that it has your domain info AND the proper name of the template (change if you used my modified templates).

This URL assumes you also downloaded my MODIFIED TEMPLATES and put them in the same folder as RSS2HTML

http://your-domain.com/rss2html/rss2html.php?XMLFILE=http://www.articlemarketingnews.com/articles/feed&TEMPLATE=mod-template2&MAXITEMS=2

Change the above so that it matches your domain name and server path and season to taste! Change the feed URL - change the template - change the number of results etc.
